Press this point for tight neck and shoulders, and upper back pain
Work at a computer all day? Feel tension in your neck and shoulders, and upper back, when you get stressed out? Get headaches at the base of your skull? Small Intestine 3 is a good point for you to know.
Small Intestine 3 is a popular point used in acupuncture treatments for pain along the back of the body, especially from the shoulder blades up. It’s very effective for pain and stiffness in these regions.
Small Intestine 3 is located on the side of your hand, just beneath (in the direction of your wrist) the bone that juts out slightly at the base of your pinky. On some people, there’s a slight change in skin color between the back of the hand and the palm. Small Intestine 3 is located right where the color changes. Find it by making a loose fist and looking for the depression.
Apply firm pressure for 1-2 minutes at least once a day. I like to use my opposite-hand thumb to press. The point can be a little tender with firm pressure, so go at your own pace and try breathing into the discomfort until it eases.
