Press this point for sore throat and swollen glands
Large Intestine 18 is what’s known in acupuncture as a local point, meaning it’s located near the site of the problem. This point is indicated for throat problems, including sore throat and swollen glands, as well as cough and loss of voice.
The English name for Large Intestine 18, Support the Prominence, can help you remember how to find it. Located on the side of the neck between the sternal and clavicular heads of the sternocleidomastoid (SCM) muscle, Large Intestine 18 is level with the prominence of the Adam’s apple of the throat.
It’s easier to find the SCM muscle if you turn your head slightly to one side. Once you’ve located the point, it’s okay to turn your head forward again while you press the point on both sides. Large Intestine 18 can be a little tender to the touch, especially when the glands are swollen, so start with light pressure and get firmer as your comfort level allows.
